Grass jelly drink

I was in a classroom that looked like one from my secondary school. There were desks placed together to form a big table in the centre of the room, for placing some big water containers and light snacks. It was at the end of the party already and most of the people there were busy lining up for photo session, over the other end of the room.

I was looking through the aftermath left over from the party. I wanted to have the grass jelly drink, but it seemed to me that it was already finished. So I settled for the Chinese tea instead, so I filled up ½ my cup with it. I saw MsLai standing at the other side of the table. I walked over to check out what drink she was trying to get. I saw her scooping some badly cut grass jelly cubes from a stainless steel tray into her cup. So I asked her, “Still got jelly left?” She gave a faint smile and nodded a little.

There was a big stainless steel container on my left with tap head at the bottom. I lifted up to cover and found that there was some syrup left in it. Immediately, I pour out the tea in my cup onto some empty tray, waiting for my turn to get the grass jelly drink. I prompted to MsLai, “why not you pour the jelly into the container?” She does not respond to me. I was thinking to myself at the same time that I was actually talking nonsense. The cube shaped jelly could not possibly get through the tap head at the bottom of the container.

Then I saw another tray over to the right of the tray with jelly. This tray has some watermelon pieces, cut in triangle shape. But the watermelon pieces were not red in colour. They were in shade of white and jelly’s dark colour. I could see some jelly cubes randomly lodged inside the watermelon pieces. I joked with MsLai about those watermelon pieces, “Grass jelly melon? Hehe.” And again, she did not respond to me. Somehow, I felt that she was colder than the left over syrup in the stainless steel container.

Suddenly Harry was standing in front of the watermelon tray. MsLai prodded Harry to scoop some of the jelly from the tray in front of her. Harry just took a peek at the tray with the grass jelly cubes. Then I just kept my silences and staring blanks into the other end the room.

I’ve got no idea if the grass jelly was nice or not, most likely it’s tasteless, like most of my dream. But one thing for sure, they are not chilled anymore, as I don’t see any ice in it or the container was cold or having any water condensation on it.
